Herne Bay Festival
21st July to 25th August 2024

Wizard Stories, Herne Bay’s Resident Storytelling Company, proposes as series of eight interactive storytelling performance over four afternoons during the two weeks of the Herne Bay Festival. We propose that the performances will be held at either Beach Creative, The Seaside Museum, or a mixture of both, to enhance the audience development programmes’ of both venues.

We would look to liaise with the volunteers at both venues to encourage them to assist in front of house, and to participate in the performances where appropriate.

The interactive storytelling performances will provide educational benefits as the stories will

focus on the stories connected with history of the town, particularly its connections with the sea.

Wizard Stories will undertake local research and develop stories including the creation of the Diver’s Arms, the tale of Sydenham Snow, the histories of Reculver, the various incarnations of Herne Bay Pier and will weave elements and images of these tales into our popular improvisational interactive storytelling format, which will also contain themes of Sea Monsters, Smugglers, Mermaids and More! This process allows us to create eight bespoke stories, for audience, and providing an opportunity for each audience member, particularly the children to take the mantle of heroes of their story.
