Jo Fooks Quartet  A brilliantly inventive player and composer” Humphrey Lyttleton. Born in Edinburgh, saxophonist Jo Fooks has toured all over the UK as a member of Lyttleton’s band. Citing Humphs “fun-filled and melodic” approach as a major influence, Jo’s big, bright sound has also been compared to iconic players such as Stan Getz. Jo has played with some of the finest mainstream bands and artists, including Jo Harrop & Scott Hamilton. Classic, swinging standards and originals. Location: The Pier Stage Time: 14:00-14:45.

Ginger Benett & Frances Knight “Chouette” is a five piece band performing the works of singer Ginger Bennett and pianist Frances Knight, inspired by luminaries like Donny Hathaway and Gregory Porter. This is new music, uncomfortable in parts, celebrating kindness and empathy to romantic whimsy and unrequited love. Location: The Pier Stage Time: 15:00-15:50

Steve Waterman  is one of the top British jazz trumpet players both at home and on the international scene. He is appearing at Herne Bay Jazz with his quartet for a celebration of Miles Davis. Location: Pier Stage Time: 16:10-17:00 Cost: FREE. Just turn up!

Leon Foster Thomas Quintet, award-winning steel pan 17.20 – 18.10

Rob Luft and Elina Duni Quartet Elina Duni is a Swiss-Albanian singer. Having been signed to ECM Records since 2012, her hallmark combination of traditional Albanian folk songs and jazz has led to worldwide critical acclaim for ‘her ability to convey intensity with the most delicate yet diamond-bright sounds’ (John Fordham, The Guardian). Guitarist Rob Luft is one of the rising stars of London’s flourishing contemporary jazz scene. Luft’s playing incorporates echoes of West African high-life, Celtic folk and textural minimalism. Together, they take us on a journey through timeless folk songs which still resonate so truly today, as well as playing their co-written original material about contemporary issues facing us all. Snowboy and the Latin Section There can be no denying that the pyrotechnic Snowboy And The Latin Section are Europe’s leading Afro Cuban Jazz group. From their debut release in 1985, they have released 16 albums and played concerts and festivals in over 22 countries, from Holland to Australia, from Japan to Scotland. Snowboy has recorded or performed percussion with many, many Jazz and Latin artists such as Airto Moreira, Deodato, Makoto Kuriya, Herman Olivera, Flaco Jimenez, Jon Lucien, James Taylor Quartet, Big John Patton, and Incognito as well as Lisa Stansfield, Imelda May, Amy Winehouse, Rod Temperton, Mark Ronson, Basia, Simply Red, Mick Hucknall, Mica Paris, Darrel Higham, Patti Austin, and many, many more. More importantly he is also the leader of his world – famous Afro-Cuban Jazz group, featuring a who’s-who of the UK’s most exciting and fiery Jazz and Latin players. Their music draws on Salsa, Mambo, and Latin Jazz, and captures the block party feel of 1970’s New York, inspired, as ever, by the greats such as Eddie Palmieri and Tito Puente. Their current album ‘New York Afternoon’ reached Number 1 in the Latin Jazz chart and Number 6 in the Jazz chart on Amazon and was the Number 1 Salsa album on the Colombian radio station ‘Salsa Exitos Del Mundo’ for two weeks, plus continuous Jazz and Salsa radio play all over the world to date. Big Smoke Family “This band is the bomb!” Booker T Jones. Inspired by New Orleans and made in London, The Big Smoke Family follow in the footsteps of modern New Orleans funk bands such as Trombone Shorty and Galactic, fusing new and old traditions with memorable chants, driving horn lines and funky street-beats. The Big Smoke Family are purveyors of voodoo funk – a unique mix of punchy horns, heavy street beats, chants, and samples, drawing inspiration from Mardi Gras Indians, James Brown, and The Meters. They are electrifying live performers, with credits which include Dr. John, Maceo Parker, and Ernest Ranglin. Their renowned show sees them regularly sell out Ronnie Scott’s, The Hootananny, London Jazz Festival, and many more. Get ready to move! Location: The Pier Stage Time: 21:10-22:00
